Meet Your Teacher

Kat Johnson has been organic farming for over 20 years. Her mission is not only to grow good food but to share field-tested practices with fellow growers to facilitate the success and sustainability of small farms and the local food movement.

Kat owns and operates Kat The Farmer LLC, a quarter-acre farmlet in Floyd County, VA specializing in gourmet salad greens of all kinds and is well known for the freshness, quality, and shelflife of her products. She added microgreens to her product list in 2022 and it quickly surpassed the revenue she was earning in salanova lettuce mix with a much smaller labor input and space requirement.

Microgreens have been the viral crop for farming entrepreneurs recently. They promise high returns and little work. However, guides to ‘get rich quick’ in farming should be looked at with scepticism, and this guide strives to be something different.

Instead, this guide is geared toward existing farmers, who already have growing experience, extra greenhouse space, and a customer base. Farmers who would like to add sun & soil grown microgreens to their product list without too much extra fuss. This guide will show you my no-nonsense practical approach to growing microgreens as part of your diversified successful farm.

Thank you for joining me in this course!
