Barrel Composter

Finally, after three years of life without a compost pile, we are trying to get back at it. I whipped up this little tumbling composter with things we had lying around the farm and put it up on cedar posts about 60’ from our kitchen door. I have never made tumbling compost… but it is supposed to be a rather quick process, and with the amount of kitchen scraps we generate from cooking with lots of vegetables (think peels, stems, skins, seeds!) I am excited to see it turned into something useful for the farmscape. I am also hoping it will be bear-proof and raccoon proof too since our local population is quite ravenous!

I am looking forward to charging up the compost with indigenous microorganisms (IMO) and biochar too!

Check out the video to see how it works.
