2024 Check Farm Trail
Farmlet Tours Sunday, June 2nd
at 10:00am and 12:00pm
(open farm from 10am-2pm)
It’s that time of year again, when local farmers try to get ahead of their mowing and planting enough to boldly invite the public to visit their fields! The Check Farm Trail, now in its third year, hosts a series of open farm events at farms throughout the northeast corner of Floyd County known as Check.
The Check Farm Trail offers something very unique. It is an opportunity for visitors to see small scale, mountain based agriculture in action. It’s not a contrived pumpkin patch or orchestrated petting zoo, but rather a peak into the actual methods, means, and meadows of the actual local farmers responsible for supplying delicious food to our local food system.
The complexity and diversity of the small farms on the trail is likely going to surprise you (especially if you try to visit several farms which we hope you do!)
This year we have 6 stops on the farm trail, including one restaurant.

Tours with Kat at Our Farmlet
Visitors to our stop on the Check Farm Trail are invited to participate in a walking tour of the 1/4 acre Farmlet with Kat Johnson, owner and operator of Kat The Farmer. Tours begin at 10 and 12 (although, we have a new baby so it may become self guided at times when the baby needs to be fed). Tours will showcase the salad centric farm, now in its fourth growing season using Certified Naturally Grown methods and specializing in salad greens, tomatoes, cucumbers, and culinary herbs on a small footprint sloping field using unheated tunnels.
The Tour will include demonstrations of small hand tools, seedling propagation, microgreen production, tunnel growing, irrigation, farm design and discussion of techniques for making salad greens last a whole lot longer than you can imagine. Kat will be happy to answer any questions along the tour as well.
Farm Products including salad dressing, limited greens, herbs, cucumbers, and merchandise will be available for sale at the farm stand. Reservations are not required this year.. Donation of $5 for each carload is suggested, but not required. No pets allowed
Parking will be on the grass, but space is tight so please carpool.
