Practical Recordkeeping: An Example
Since keeping records on your farm can feel like a dizzying effort to capture a million possible data points while juggle all the hats of being a farmer and getting your product to market…I thought that laying out my suite of practices might help offer a glimpse at one practical example.
The essence of recordkeeping is to only keep the records you know you will need to refer to later. The reasons for keeping these records might include better decision making, better crop planning, certification or regulatory requirements, or personal goal setting. But if you don’t have a reason to keep a record, the chances of you entering useful data, and maintaining a tidy record are unlikely- so don’t keep the records unless you know you will need them later.
This video shares a bit more about the tools and workflow I use on my tiny farm to keep my data organized and working for me. Let me know if you have any questions or ideas!
